The Positions

Collections Officers and Credit Officers act as the main point of contact between Tugende and its clients. These roles form the core of our field team and work closely together to make sure that Tugende approves the best applicants and supports these clients throughout the length of their lease to empower them to become owners.

Credit Officers’ core responsibilities include:

  • Work with applicants seeking to own a motorcycle through Tugende
    • Conduct sensitization trainings: Teach applicants about Tugende’s terms and conditions, customer service, safety, and financial management.
    • Register applicants: Meet with applicants to obtain information on them and answer their questions about the process.
    • Vet applicants: Conduct field visits (at applicant’s stage and home) while paired with another loan officer to assess applicants’ creditworthiness
    • Analyze strength of completed applications: Analyze applicants’ financial status, credit, outstanding loans and property to determine applicant qualification.
    • Approve/Reject applicants: Evaluate applicants’ creditworthiness and make recommends to approve or reject applicants.
    • Complete and review loan agreements: Ensure that they are complete and accurate according to the Tugende Policies.
    • Help deliver bikes to new clients. Ensure that clients understand the key terms and conditions of Tugende, as well as the warrantee and maintenance requirements, before handing off the bikes.
  •  Support client in field and office
    • Customer service: Listen to customer feedback, and give recommendations or escalate problem cases where necessary.
    • Impound motorcycles: Conduct impounding activities as needed
    • Ensure clients observe lease terms and conditions

Collections Officers’ core responsibilities include:

    • Complete and review loan agreements: Ensure that they are complete and accurate according to the Tugende Policies.
    • Help deliver bikes to new clients. Ensure that clients understand the key terms and conditions of Tugende, as well as the warrantee and maintenance requirements, before handing off the bikes.
  •  Support client in field and office
    • Customer service: Listen to customer comments and complaints, and give recommendations or escalate problem cases where necessary.
    • Manage portfolio of up to 250 clients: Work closely with and support clients to ensure timely lease repayments. Understand any challenges to repaying, and support and coach clients in their effort to become owners. Work closely with the Collections Officer to track client payment information. Ensure fines are applied properly.
    • Impounding: Conduct impounding activities.

Key Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service and empathy for our customers.
  • Comfortable using computer.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity.

  • Desire to learn to ride a motorcycle to conduct field work.

Not required, but nice to have:

  • College diploma, ideally in a business-related field.
  • Experience working with a credit-related business.
  • Motorcycle riding ability is an added advantage.
  • Speak languages from the areas of Hoima, Jinja, Masaka, Mbale, Gulu, Mbarara and may be willing to relocate there in the future.

Hours and compensation: This position is for a full-time employee who can take on additional responsibilities as new tasks and projects come up. Compensation will be determined based on experience and commitment
